Howdy All,
I’ve written a book! A fiction book to be somewhat more specific. A fiction book about a famous rockstar surviving a near fatal drug overdose that kicks off a journey of redemption to be even more specific. It’s coming out July 2nd and you can pre-order it below.
I am a terrible hype man, so what follows may not be the greatest pitch on why you should read it, but here we go.
I don’t think anyone close to me is surprised that I’ve written a fictional book. I also don’t think anyone close to me is surprised that I’ve written a book with music featured so prominently. I do think a lot of folks close to me are surprised I wrote THIS book. So am I, to be honest. Of all the ideas I have, and the books I’ve started working on over the years, I don’t know if this is what I would have thought my first book would be about. But this is the idea that all the gears in my brain clicked into place on to where I managed to finish what I started. While I don’t think I’ve written the greatest book ever or anything, I think the end result is worthy of some of your time. At the very least, I think there are definitely worse ways to spend a few hours and $4.99.
I’ve written a book for folks that tell me they don’t like reading books or don’t have the time. It’s written in the style of a Rolling Stone or NME long form article. The narrator is, after all, a cynical English music journalist. So, I think that makes it feel less “book like” (if that makes sense). It’s also only about 70,000 words when most novels are 100,000. Which is by design as part of writing a book that would take folks only a few hours. I’ve been told by folks that it’s an easy read that moves quickly and holds your attention. So, I think that means I’ve succeeded in my goals? I’ve also had people tell me it reminds them of a modern Almost Famous, which is an excellent movie and definitely something that helped shape this, though I don’t hold a candle to Cameron Crowe’s writing.
I am forever indebted to those that read prior versions of the book, especially the really early drafts, and gave me feedback. I think it has come a long way because of you excellent, amazing, kind, generous, patient, and thoughtful people. For all its remaining flaws, it would have been much rougher if it wasn’t for you all.
All that being said, it would mean a great deal to me if you could follow the link below and pre-order the e-book ahead of the July 2nd release. For you physical book only folks, don’t worry I am just waiting for final versions of the book sleeve to announce that. I’m hoping for some time in August. In the meantime, if you would be willing to give the e-book version a go, I’d appreciate it.
Anyway, Jesus and Joe Strummer by me is coming out July 2nd, exclusive to Amazon until October. I know, they’re the evil empire, so maybe also buy a book through Tropes Bookstore on Bookshop to offset the negative karma points?
